"In this technology driven era, be alert to what your kids are seeing and who they are spending time with!"
I wanted to jump on here and share something dear to my heart! As a mom or dad living in this time, did you ever wonder… how can I best protect my kids from human trafficking? Of course, we don’t want to live in fear, but instead be wise and discerning about things.
I encourage you to talk with your kids at a young age openly about this when you feel they are ready. I don’t know that there is a specific age, but I know children are exposed to bad pictures/videos at a young age these days. Communication is key! And developing that trust between you goes a long way!
Another thing to be aware of is often we trust the ones we love most, like family, which is normal. But sometimes, difficult things can happen in families too. Always be aware of where your kids are and who they are with, even family and close friends. A shocking statistic to me is that in 2017, IOM (International Organization for Migration) estimated that 41% of child trafficking experiences are facilitated by family members and/or caregivers.
I wanted to share a few resources with you all that are so helpful which we promote at She’s Somebody’s Daughter, the anti-trafficking organization that I volunteer for. You can learn more about this wonderful organization here:
