I don’t know about you but I love finding hidden gems in unsuspected places! One of these places was a beautiful village on the coast of Mozambique called Tofu Beach in Inhumbane. While we were on a trip recently to visit our son, Shaun, in Tete, Mozambique, we took a little side trip to this relaxing beach to refresh and process.
We spent 5 days here staying in lovely accommodations called Kumba Lodge. The lodge sat on top of a sand dune that overlooked the ocean and had an infinity pool. Shaun’s friend, Keruso, also, joined us for four days.
Chad & Shaun learned to surf and thoroughly enjoyed that! My highlight was taking a dhow boat, which in essence is a sailboat, with a local gentleman where we did snorkeling/picking up shells. It was amazing and we saw starfish, seahorses and beautiful fish! It was a long journey in the hot sun, but it was such a neat cultural experience. Many men and women were fishing out in the bay on sandbars which looked like such a hot and tedious job!
It was fun buying some souvenirs from the locals which made their day. An eventful part of the trip was one evening when Shaun was headed to his room in the darkness, he stepped over something. Unbeknownst to him, we would later learn it was a rock python! The lodge owner assured us that they will not bother us…they are just good at catching rats. Also, there may have been a toad in our toilet. So if you are in this part of the world, and you don’t mind a few critters, I highly recommend Tofu Beach!
